Book In Your Hand is a Mac app for making picture books, made by Stillbyte LLC. This page explains what the app and this website do with information.
The app
- Your books stay on your Mac. A book is a folder of text files and pictures in the place you choose, with its version history inside it. Book In Your Hand has no account and no cloud.
- The AI is yours, and only when you ask. When you ask the assistant something, translate an edition or ask for a picture, the app sends the book's text (and, for pictures, the pictures it needs) to the Claude or ChatGPT app installed on your Mac and signed in with your own account. Their privacy terms apply to those requests. Nothing is sent when you don't ask.
- Pictures are analysed on your Mac. Finding the light area for text, the characters a cloud must not cover and the words painted in a picture uses the image analysis built into macOS, on your Mac.
- No tracking. The app sends no analytics, no crash reports and no usage data.
- Updates. The app checks
updates.stillbyte.dev(the update host of Stillbyte LLC) for a new version. That request carries the app's version and your macOS version, like any download, and nothing about you or your books.
This website
bookinyourhand.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising. It is served by Cloudflare, which processes connection data (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site.
Deleting your data
Your books are the folders you saved; delete a book's folder to delete the book and its history. Besides your books, the app keeps only its settings and the list of recent books, in its preferences on your Mac.
